As part of the Systems Engineering course at the Technische Universität Ilmenau, students first learn the processes and methods that can be used to develop complex mechatronic products in a targeted manner. Great emphasis is given to practical application, so that students work in teams on specific projects. Building on the methods, the Virtual Product Development course teaches which models and tools can support the methods. Here, too, the students work on projects; specifically, they have to systematically develop SysML models for selected products.
Today, the Masters students presented the SysML models they had created in the projects. I am delighted what the students have achieved with SysML after just a few weeks of MBSE lectures and seminars. Executable system models for a wide range ofmechatronic products, from robotic lawnmowers to 3D printers, keyless entry systems, automatic lighting systems and electric go-karts, with complex structural and behavioural descriptions.
Thanks also go to the seminar teachers Faizan Faheem and Zirui Li
