Representatives of the team behind the Flora Incognita app of TU Ilmenau and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena will be present when the Woche der Umwelt 2024 (“Week of the Environment 2024”) takes place in the park of Bellevue Palace in Berlin on June 4 and 5, 2024, with around 70 specialist forums, exciting discussions and a major innovation showcase on a sustainable future.

At his official residence, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the German Federal Environmental Foundation cordially invite you to a multifaceted innovation show - with ideas and projects for more environmental, climate and species protection. The park of Bellevue Palace will become a tent city with a total of around 190 exhibitors and more than 70 specialist forums on health, society, business, nature conservation and many other exciting topics. "It will be a festival for a sustainable future. Concrete solutions for urgent environmental problems are more important than ever," says DBU Secretary General Alexander Bonde.

"Flora Incognita": One of two exhibitors from Thuringia

Flora Incognita is among the 190 exhibitors that qualified als one of two projects from Thuringia in an ideas competition. With the app of the same name, it addresses an issue that, alongside the climate crisis, poses a major threat to humanity: the rapid loss of biodiversity. Under the motto "you only protect what you love", the project also explores the possibilities of artificial intelligence and modern methods of machine learning.

Visitors can learn about the plant identification app at an information stand in Bellevue Palace Park and try it out on wild plants themselves. A screen offers the opportunity to playfully engage with the topic of "loss of biodiversity". The development team will also provide information about the scientific research that makes the collected data possible.

Registration for a visit to the "Week of the Environment" is now open: www.dbu.de/anmeldung-wdu.

Around 190 exhibitors, future topics on a large stage and more than 70 specialist forums

A high-caliber jury from the worlds of politics, society, business and science has reviewed around 400 applications for the final selection of the 190 exhibitors at "Woche der Umwelt" on the basis of a nationwide call for applications. The innovation show is dedicated to highly topical aspects of climate, environmental and species protection: on June 4 and 5, discussions and a talk by the Federal President with young people on the main stage as well as more than 70 specialist forums will provide fresh impetus and solutions. "It's about the central challenges of our time," says Bonde. For example, climate neutrality and energy security, hydrogen technology, biodiversity and resource conservation, sustainable change and social cohesion will be discussed. Other topics include education, digitalization, infrastructure and the economy.
