Funding opportunities for international trips and stays of international guests

A limited amount of funding is available for staff to travel to international universities and institutions and for international guests to stay at TU Ilmenau. In particular for stays for which no other funding program is available and for which no financial support can be applied for from a third-party funding body. Financial support is coordinated by the International Office.

Depending on the location and activity of your trip, we will support you in selecting and applying for funding. This also applies to inviting guests to our university for whom no financial resources can be found via third-party funding programs or from the home institution. If you select a target region of TU Ilmenau, please contact the person responsible for the respective target region. For detailed information on the individual funding opportunities and the application procedure please visit our  intranet-webpage.

Travel on behalf of the employer

The university supports you on international business trips. Depending on the destination country, however, there may be other things you need to consider and which require a certain amount of additional organization in advance. This could be, for example

  • Visa and the necessary documents (written invitation from the host organization if necessary)
  • Health insurance cover abroad
  • Necessary vaccinations

The application procedure for your business trip is the same as for domestic trips on behalf of the employer. Please note the respective maximum reimbursement rates according to destination country and location. This and further information is available on the intranet from the Human Resources and Legal Department.

Safety instructions for business trips abroad

Before departure
  • Find out about your host country and the local situation on the website of the Federal Foreign Office. Please note entry restrictions and partial travel warnings. The University advises against traveling to countries or areas for which a travel warning has been issued.
  • Make a note of important emergency numbers before you travel (police and emergency doctor in the host country, foreign representation in the host country, blocking of credit cards, foreign health and accident insurance, etc.).
  • Copy/scan important documents and, if possible, do not keep them together with the original documents.
  • Plan a preventive health check and, if necessary, vaccinations before your trip and update your first-aid kit. If you need new vaccinations for your trip, please contact the Department of Human Resources and Legal Affairs in good time.

During your stay
  • Please ensure that you can be contacted in an emergency.
  • Make sure you have sufficient and up-to-date information about the local security situation, especially when traveling to politically unstable regions and areas that are frequently affected by natural disasters.
  • Please observe the safety-first principle at all times and break off your trip in dangerous situations.
  • If you are a German citizen and travelling to dangerous areas, register on the ELEFAND crisis preparedness list of the Federal Foreign Office from the start of your trip.
