Starting June 8, the TU Ilmenau will present the exhibition “Hidden Worlds” – award-winning images from the NanObjectives photo contest that bring the university’s research in the micro- and nano-scale into view. The 27 images depict scientific structures and phenomena invisible to the naked eye – while also showcasing the aesthetic side of modern research. The exhibition will be on view from June 8 through July 17 during library hours – and also at the Ilmenau Science Night on June 20; admission is free.

“Tiny Pump & Vivid Color” – with his fascinating photograph of a micropump, Sebastian Bohm, a former employee of TU Ilmenau, won first prize in the NanObjectives photo competition last year. All 27 images, displayed in large formats at the University Library, offer a glimpse into the fascinating world of micro- and nanotechnologies – tiny structures, surfaces, or cells that are otherwise hidden from the human eye – measuring just one millionth of a meter, and some even one billionth of a meter in size.

All of the photographs were award-winning entries in the NanObjectives photo competition organized by the Ilmenau Micro- and Nanotechnology Support Association and the Institute of Micro- and Nanotechnologies. They demonstrate that scientific research can be not only innovative but also surprisingly beautiful. Over 50 submissions per competition year demonstrate the zeal and enthusiasm with which research is conducted at the Center for Micro- and Nanotechnologies at TU Ilmenau.
