AI in the Classroom: Workshop in Malaysia Highlights Challenges and Opportunities

Malaysia, October 6, 2025 – Artificial intelligence will not replace university teachers, but it is already transforming their profession. This was the key message of a workshop led by Professor em. Martin Löffelholz at INTI International University, Malaysia.

Under the title "Integrating Artificial Intelligence into the (Communication) Classroom", around 50 academics from across Southeast and South Asia and the USA came together for an intensive exchange.

The lively and interactive session reflected both curiosity and concern. While participants agreed that AI offers enormous potential for teaching and learning, they also warned of serious challenges.

These include the urgent need for ethical and academic guidelines to govern the use of AI, as well as the difficulty of keeping pace with the breakneck speed of technological development.

"Universities must become more agile if they want to stay relevant," Löffelholz emphasized, noting that faculty alone cannot continuously track the fast-moving changes in AI. The consensus: artificial intelligence will reshape higher education, but human educators remain essential – as mentors, critical thinkers, and guarantors of academic integrity.
