New publication in Communicatio Socialis on VR in journalism

New publication by Aynur Sarısakaloğlu in Communicatio Socialis on "Virtual reality in journalism: Participatory-immersive dimension of news reporting and its potentials and challenges”.

The implementation of virtual reality (VR) in journalism opens up a participatory-immersive dimension of news coverage. As an interactive interface between human and machine, VR technology enables the immersion of recipients in synthetically visualised journalistic events by simulating human sensory perceptions. Aynur Sarısakaloğluoffers an introduction to immersive journalism, followed by an analysis of its potentials and challenges for news production and reception. It provides thought-provoking pointers for reflection on the media-ethical dimension of immersive reporting through examples and formulates a conclusion.
