As of now, students can apply to the Studierendenwerk Thüringen (stw) for the state's one-time "StudiumThüringenPlus" start-up aid of 500 euros. This was announced today by Thuringia's Minister of Science, Wolfgang Tiefensee. The grant is available to new students from low-income families who are admitted to a Thuringian state or state-recognized university for the first time. The money from "StudiumThüringenPlus" can be used, for example, for PC hardware and software, study materials and study literature, language courses, semester fees, or other items needed for the start of studies or study-related expenses.
All first-year students who are enrolled for the first time at a Thuringian university and have applied for support under the BAföG can apply for "StudiumThüringenPlus". If no enrolment takes place after the payment of the start-up aid or if the neediness cannot be confirmed (because the BAföG application or the BAföG support is rejected), the support must be repaid within five months. The use of the study start assistance must be proven by appropriate receipts. The duration of the programme initially extends until the beginning of the winter semester 2023/2024.
