Lots of good and positive memories. Including my first move-out at the age of 18, when I moved straight into my own apartment. Above all, the topic of self-discovery shaped me in Ilmenau: What makes you special, who you are and what do you want to achieve in life?

There weren't really any alternatives, so Ilmenau was a shot into the unknown. However, I really liked the city and the atmosphere there.

I can't say that specifically. It varies enormously depending on the module. The first semester in particular was difficult; I personally found microeconomics difficult. I had to learn a lot and the study was demanding, but in the end all of this could be achieved with joint study groups with friends.

Definitely the lecture in which the professor started with relaxation exercises and movement. She made sounds and raised her arms. But also interjections in VL have loosened it up again and again when it got stuck. There was always a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.

Today I work at NTT DATA Business Solutions AG in the Global Marketing department. I create materials and content there and prepare it globally in order to generate added value. This includes topics such as SAP Consulting, digitization and innovative technologies. My job is to prepare and design the content as attractively as possible. Packing these complex structures compactly into small bites is what makes my work so attractive. I really enjoy my work there.

I have already gained experience in various industries. I did my mandatory internship at 20th Century Fox in Frankfurt and was then taken on as a press assistant in a full-time position. As a result, I helped organize premieres in Berlin and Munich, which allowed me to get to know directors and actors. The “stars and starlets of the world” so to speak, that was really cool! In order to gain more input, I then decided on the master’s degree in Siegen, where I studied business administration and economics in a combination of German / English. At the same time, I was working in the steel industry at Schäfer Werke as a student trainee, where I also did marketing. So I switched from B2C to B2B and found that B2B appeals to me more. You have to work with factually good, well-founded arguments that emphasize the product properties and functionalities.

I was able to make some contacts through Inova, a student association that organizes a company contact fair. Ilmenau seems small, but can be found all over Germany, also in private life. One meets Ilmenauer again and again in his life. You immediately feel comfortable and at home again, just as it was there in Ilmenau. At that time I would never have thought to work in the field of SAP and innovative technologies, but now I am very happy to have ended up there.

At first I didn't know anyone in my new place of study. I didn't know the city, I didn't know anyone, I moved there all by myself. The first week helped me enormously to make friends, at the beginning it is always strange in new groups when nobody knows anyone, but because everyone is in the same situation it goes away quickly. In fact, you learn that for life too. You keep getting into situations, even at work, in which you don't know anyone, you have to learn to jump into the deep end and find your way around there. I think the TU Ilmenau makes it easy for you, you just have to be open to it, jump over your own shadow and take advantage of the offers.

Joining the various associations such as SWING, the “Film Leben Festival” and the Children's University expanded my contacts with other students outside of my degree program. That helped me to think outside the box and broaden my horizons. Clubs are great platforms to get to know new people. In the clubs I dealt with location scouting and acquisition, among other things. The Inova trade fair management challenged me a lot at SWING and allowed me to grow. Among other things, you learn how to deal with other people and how to tackle projects. Today I like to approach people and can also ask for help. Of course, the club work is time-consuming, so you sometimes have to make a decision, for example I decided against my recently started part-time job at Lidl, simply because the experience in the clubs was more important to me.

A clear yes! During my studies, I met my best friend, among other things. We and our group of friends, consisting of six people, are still in regular contact and have been going on vacation once a year since then. Otherwise we also meet via video conference and no matter how long ago the last conversation was, it's back to the way it was before. It's really interesting that each of us went our own way, even though we learned together back then. Next year we even celebrate the tenth anniversary of our getting to know. One day we all want to visit Ilmenau again as a clique. I met my best friends through Ilmenau and I am very grateful for that.

YES! You definitely can't go wrong with studying at the TU Ilmenau. Ilmenau is particularly suitable for the Bachelor's degree, when moving away from home for the first time as an introduction. I can and would only recommend it and hereby give something back to the university!

One should be open to the offers that the university offers, use them and, above all, build networks. Join clubs, gain experience and let go of your inhibitions.
