Jugend forscht is Germany's best-known competition for young talent. The aim is to get young people interested in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology and to find and promote talented young people. There are more than 100 competitions nationwide every year. Young people up to the age of 21 can register for the competition. Pupils from the 4th grade up to the age of 14 compete in the "Schüler experimentieren" junior division. The 15 to 21-year-olds compete in the "Jugend forscht" category. The TU Ilmenau, the Universitätsgesellschaft der TU Ilmenau e.V. and LINDIG Fördertechnik have been sponsoring the Jugend forscht competition since 2013 and jointly organize the regional competition in the West Thuringia region.
