"Jugend forscht" is Germany's best-known competition for young researchers. The aim is to get young people excited about mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology, and to find and promote talent. Every year there are more than 100 competitions nationwide. Young people up to the age of 21 can register for the competition. Pupils from the 4th grade up to 14 years of age compete in the junior section "Schüler experimentieren". The 15 to 21-year-olds start in the "Jugend forscht" section. There are six regional competitions in Thuringia and one state competition. Since 2013, the TU Ilmenau and the Universitätsgesellschaft der TU Ilmenau e.V. have been sponsoring companies in the "Jugend forscht" competition and are shaping the framework for the regional competition in the Western Thuringia region. LINDIG Fördertechnik GmbH has been supporting us since 2016.
West Thuringia includes all schools in the West Thuringia school district - i.e. in the districts of Wartburg-Kreis, Gotha, Ilm-Kreis and the independent city of Eisenach. Competition director is Jens König, deputy headmaster of the "Wilhelm Hey" regular school in Ichtershausen.
The motto of the 58th round of the competition is "Make up your mind!". Jugend forscht encourages all young researchers to take up the challenge of researching and experimenting, tinkering and inventing - and to allow room for chance.
Until November 30, 2023 , children from grade 4 and young adults up to the age of 21 could register their project work for the "Schüler experimentieren" and "Jugend forscht" competitions. Under the motto "You can do it!", Jugend forscht encourages children and young people to take up the challenge of finding answers to their own questions and to get creative themselves.
From February 2024, the regional competitions will take place nationwide, where the young researchers will present their research projects to a jury and the public.
All interested parties are cordially invited to attend the public presentation in the foyer of the Humboldtbau at TU Ilmenauon February 7 starting at 3 p.m. and the subsequent award ceremony at 4:15 p.m.
The regional winners will compete at state level in March and April. The Thuringia state competition will take place on April 9, 2024 in Jena. There, the best will qualify for the 59th national final, which will take place fromMay 30 to June 02, 2024 in Heilbronn will take place.
