The training year at TU Ilmenau starts in August with an official welcome for all trainees by the Chancellor, the Head of Human Resources and Legal Affairs, the University's Head of Training and the future trainers. The new university members then have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the university for several days during the first three weeks.
As part of a three-day programme, they are guided by the respective trainers and trainees from a higher apprenticeship year. The joint tour of the campus, visits to laboratories and lunch together make it easier for them to get to know each other and familiarise themselves with university life.
TU Ilmenau/ Christopher DornheimWhich department will I visit first during my training? What does a flexible working hours model mean? Who will I be working with? On the first day, the new trainees received answers to these and other questions from the staff and third-year trainees.
After the opening of the training year by the Director of Human Resources and Legal Affairs, Stefan Roth, and the Head of Training, Anja Röper, the trainees given specially prepared training folders containing all the important information about their vocational training.
Following this, the service IDs and trainee laptops, along with a brief technical introduction, were collected from the university's computing center.
For lunch, a joint meal in the TU cafeteria was on the agenda, giving the new trainees a first taste of university life. To conclude the day, the trainees got to know their future workplace during a campus tour.

In the afternoon, there was an insight into the work of the Technical University of Ilmenau in the areas of research and teaching. The apprentices attended an incredibly fascinating demonstration of robots in the Zuse Building by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Horst-Michael Groß, where mobile assistant robots were shown, which, for example, can autonomously ride elevators or open doors.
Afterward, the apprentices were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Robert Geitner in the Röntgen building for some exciting experiments. The demonstrations sparked great enthusiasm among all participants and vividly illustrated to the apprentices the diverse fields in which the scientific staff work
