The 63rd Hohenheim Advanced Seminar took place at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar from April 23 to 25, 2026. Following the established format of submitted papers and co-presentations, projects and papers currently in the writing process from the “Law and Economics of Digitalization” research group were also presented and discussed.
Nina L. Färber and Florian Hey (Economic Theory Research Group) presented their paper “Data Privacy or Data Competition? The Dysfunctional Transfer of ‘Freely Given Consent’ in the DMA,” which was co-reviewed by Simon Block (ABC Economics). Assistant Professor Dr. Juliane Mendelsohn presented her paper “Data, Power and Democracy: Correlations, Causations and Corrections,” co-authored with Tristan Rohner (Bucerius Law School) and co-reviewed by Jan Schnellenbach (BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg). Comments were then provided by co-reviewer Jörn Sickmann (Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences) on the paper “Competition Implications of AI Partnership Agreements” by Lukas Breide, before the paper “Systematic Market Power, Ecosystems, and Innovation: Implications for Merger Control in the EU and Beyond,” a collaboration between Juliane Mendelsohn, Lukas Breide, Oliver Budzinski, and Annika Stöhr (both from the Economic Theory Research Group), was co-reviewed by Martina Eckardt (Andrássy University Budapest).
All conference participants would like to thank the organizers of the conference, Prof. Björn Kuchinke and Assistant Prof. Jürgen Rösch of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, for the wonderful conference, including the guided tour of the Anna Amalia Library, and for the stimulating discussions that will undoubtedly advance the research presented in the papers.
