The Group of Metallic Materials and Composite Materials (MWV) works on basic and application-oriented research and development projects with different objectives under the guiding principle "Material technological concepts and solutions for production and manufacturing technology". The focus is on a holistic evaluation of component properties resulting from material properties, manufacturing processes, structural design and component stress. The "classical" materials, steel, copper, nickel, etc., are taken into account, as well as the current "new" materials and material composites, sandwich structures, hybrid materials, metallic foams, etc.

Research focus of the department:

- powder metallurgical development of alloys for dissimilar metals and composites - characterisation and application of metallic materials, material analysis and material optimisation - analysis of manufacturing processes and process optimisation of metallic materials - development and application of hybrid materials, material systems; multi-material design - cellular metals, analysis, manufacturing and processing - viscosity of partially solidified aluminium alloys

Range of services for companies:

- basic research and development work up to complete problem solutions for industry - support of small and medium-sized enterprises in innovative developments in order to develop technological projects in line with market requirements and to transfer them into pre-series production
