- Dipl.-phys.– 1989 (Friedrich-Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg)
- Dr. rer. nat. – 1993 (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg)
- Habilitation – 2002 (Fernuniversität Hagen)
- Professor for Technische Optik (Optical Engineering) – 2002 (Technische Universität Ilmenau)
Stefan Sinzinger received his Dipl.-Phys. and Dr. degrees from the Friedrich-Alexander Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany), Institute for Applied Optics (Prof. Dr. A. W. Lohmann), in 1989 and 1993, respectively. There he was involved in the design, fabrication and characterization of diffractive and refractive microoptical elements. In 1990/1991 he spent 9 month at the NEC Research Institute in Princeton New Jersey, USA, performing research on Computer holography. In 1994 he joined Prof. Dr. J. Jahns at the Institute for information technology (optische Nachrichtentechnik) at the Fernuniversität Hagen where he was performing research on planar microoptical systems integration. In 1998 he received the Bennigsen-Foerder Award for young scientists in Nordrhein-Westfalen for the project “Mikrooptischer Lesekopf für Kopierschutzhologramme” (“microoptical readout device for security holograms”). After finishing his “Habilitation” on “Planar-optical systems technology” in 2002 he became Professor for Technische Optik (“Optical Engineering”) at the Technische Universität Ilmenau, Mechanical Engineering Department. Among other activities he is Associate Editor or the SPIE Journal on "Microlithography, Microfabrication, and Microsystems".
