In this workshop, we teach you all the basics you need to know about using a soldering iron. We explain what is important when soldering, give tips and help to overcome the insecurities of many beginners.

This workshop is aimed at interested parties from all faculties.

In this workshop, each of you will build an LED cube kit with 27 red LEDs. The construction of this cube is a little more complicated and requires a little more time, but the cube also has a USB port that can be used to program your own animations.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who already has some soldering experience.

In this workshop, each of you will build a small audio amplifier. The main focus here is on transferring an electrical circuit diagram to a circuit on a breadboard. The finished amplifier can be connected to your cell phone via a jack cable and you can play your favorite music directly. You will also receive a loudspeaker to match the circuit.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who already has some soldering experience.

In this workshop, you will build a circuit with which you can light up an RGB LED in different colors using potentiometers. The main focus here is on the transfer of an electrical circuit diagram to a circuit on a breadboard. We will also briefly explain what a constant current source is and what it is used for.

In cooperation with the company Thales in Arnstadt, you will have the opportunity to etch, drill, solder and test your own circuit board. In this workshop, each of you will build your own audio amplifier that you can take home with you.

The workshop will take place on 2 dates in the Thales training rooms in Arnstadt.

ATTENTION: You must be available on both dates! Arrival either by train or with your own car (we can also make contact with the other participants regarding carpooling).

In this workshop, we will teach you all the basics you need to know about using a soldering iron. In a cozy atmosphere with gingerbread, cookies and punch, each of you will solder a Christmas kit (Christmas tree (2D, 3D, SMD), star, heart).

This workshop is aimed at both beginners and advanced users who would like to end the year with us.

PS: The soldered kit is also a great gift ;-)

The Arduino is a simple but powerful microcontroller that makes it easy to get started with hardware programming. In this workshop, we will teach you the basics of using the Arduino's input and output pins.

This workshop is aimed at total Arduino novices with an engineering background or an interest in electrical engineering.

Building on Part 1, this workshop deals with serial communication with the PC and the integration of external libraries into your own programs.

This workshop is aimed at all those who have already completed Part 1.

In this workshop, we will teach you all the necessary basics for using our CNC milling machine. Each of you will create a simple CAD model in the program of your choice (LibreCAD, Inventor, ...) and then mill it out of wood.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who would like to learn how to use our CNC milling machine. It is helpful if you already have some experience with a CAD program, but this is not essential.

IMPORTANT: Everyone needs their own laptop, preferably with a mouse!

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to gain your first experience on a lathe in the training workshop. You will be taught basic theoretical knowledge and can then produce your own turned part under supervision.

NOTE: It is advisable to wear clothes that can get dirty. If available, please wear safety shoes, or at least sturdy footwear.

The workshop will take place in the training workshop to the right of lecture hall 2.

The time actually refers to MORNING, so please get up on time ;-)

This workshop is aimed at interested people from all faculties.

In this workshop, we will teach you the theoretical basics of using our 3D printer. We will cover model creation, slicing and the various parameters within the processing chain through to the actual printing process. As a single print takes quite a long time, this workshop will not involve everyone printing their own model. However, you will have the opportunity to do so after participating in this workshop as part of the OPEN Labs.

This workshop is aimed at anyone who would like to learn how to use our 3D printer.

In this workshop, we will teach you the basics of hand lay-up together with the Plastics Technology department. You will be provided with a model that you can rebuild using fiber composites.

This workshop is aimed at interested students from all faculties.

In this workshop, a bird house is built from wood (+ roofing felt). This involves sawing, drilling, sanding, gluing and screwing as well as treating the surface.

There will be two birdhouse templates, a classic and a designer birdhouse. However, you can also choose your own birdhouse design using the materials available.

You can determine which bird species you build your house for by the diameter of the entrance hole of your nesting box. 

The choice of two birdhouses will be sent to you by e-mail in good time before the start of the course.

Costs vary depending on the birdhouse. 

Exact material costs are not yet known, but will be around €10.

This workshop is aimed at interested people from all faculties.

In this workshop, a shelf is built from solid wood panels made from spruce or pine. This involves sawing, drilling, sanding, gluing and screwing and treating the surface. You can design your shelf (for the wardrobe/kitchen/bathroom/workshop or office) individually or build it according to a template. A small selection of shelf templates will be sent to you by e-mail in good time before the start of the course.

Costs vary depending on the shelf (between 4-8€ per person).
