After you have logged into the catalogue for the first time with the library user number and your password, you should change your password!
Recommendations for the password:
- minimum 8, maximum 12 digits; minimum 2 capital letters and 2 digits
- no use of personal data (e. g. user names or parts thereof)
- no word from a known language (not even from colloquial language, dialect etc. )

Note: Please only use the characters A-Z, a-z, 0-9 as well as the under- (_) and hyphen (-) for the password. Only letters and numbers can be used when using the self-check-out system.
When you have forgotten your password, you can remember it easily: It consists of the first letter of your last name and your date of birth in six digits (DDMMYY).
Example: Hans Meier, born on 22 March 1975, his password is: M220375.
You can have a temporary password sent to the e-mail address stored in your user account. If you have any problems, please contact the information desk or the circulation desk.
You can inform the University Library about changes of your personal details like a new address or a change of your name when you fill in the appropriate form. Please inform the University Library at once as it is in your interest to receive your mail, in case of a reminder, as early as possible.
No, it isn‘t. Borrowing with the title "book" means that the book you borrowed contains a CD-ROM as supplement. In the past, book and CD-ROM were considered two individual titles borrowed and today they are registered as one title borrowed. The signature is in addition to the “book" mentioned and you can identify which book it is. Please treat these titles borrowed as all the other media you have borrowed and renew them accordingly if necessary.
This can have several reasons:
- the right of use has expired,
- the reminder fees are at 7.50 euro,
- at least a third reminder has been sent to you.
Please report to the circulation desk for the renewal of your user rights with the submission of necessary documents, for payment of the reminder fees or for the return of media and the payment of the fees after the third reminder. If there is no reservation, the media can be borrowed at once again.
In case of direct access, click the menu User Account.on the homepage. You are now asked to enter user identification and password. You find your user number on your library card/thoska underneath the barcode on the back (in general, it starts with 34….).
Your password is the first letter of your last name and the date of birth in six digits. Example: For Mr. Meier, born on 01.01.1960, the password is M010160.
After the correct entry, you see your user data /details. You find a list with all media you have currently borrowed under the button “Borrowing“. Renewals are ticked accordingly and if the tick box is missing, the book has been reserved and cannot be renewed. The new renewal period is always calculated from the date of the renewal plus four weeks. Please note that you cannot change any borrowing periods when the period has already expired. In this case, please send an email to our information desk and ask for renewal.
In general, the borrowing period can be extended three times by four weeks. The new expiry date of the lending period is calculated as follows: date of the renewal + 4 weeks. You have to do the renewal yourself before the expiry date. A fourth renewal may be possible in exceptional cases and you should send an email or WhatsApp in any case.
No, we can only accept a renewal in writing. Please send us an email or letter and inform us about the situation and your request for renewal. Should a renewal not be possible due to reservations, reminders or the exceeding of the maximum number of renewals (three times from your side and once on our part), we will contact by email accordingly.

When you are a student or a staff member of the TU Ilmenau and would like to receive information by email, please use your university mail address.
Before returning a book, please inform the assistant at the circulation desk that you need a receipt.
Your waiting period depends on the lending period, but you should consider that books may be returned before the lending period has expired. Furthermore, we have experienced that not always the most favorable copy is reserved when it comes to titles with many copies (e.g. in the textbook collection). Therefore, it may happen that there are free copies available on the shelf although you are still waiting for the book.
As soon as the reserved book is available at the circulation desk, you will receive an email to your university email address and you can collect the book within the following three opening days.
When the reserved book is available at the circulation desk, members of the TU Ilmenau receive an email sent to their university email address. External users also receive an email when they have informed the University Library about their email address using the following online form.
Your user account also shows you when a book is ready for collection at the circulation desk. Under the tab "Reservations" you find a survey of your reservations. When a title is no longer listed under “Reservations”, it is available for collection at the circulation desk.
The orders are available for three opening days at the circulation desk (Central library).
The lending period of media which have been reserved by other users cannot be renewed. There is no box which can be ticked in the tab “Borrowing“ in the user data window. Under "selection of all borrowed media" for renewal these media are ignored and no information about a successful renewal appears. Thus, it can occur that not all media are included in the general extension of the lending period.
The emails are sent correctly but the local mail program recognizes them as spam and transfers them into the appropriate file. In Microsoft Outlook this file is called "Junk-Mail". This wrong identification as spam does not refer to the central Anti-Spam-Appliance of the university but is only caused by the spam filter of the local mail program. Therefore, we advise you to deactivate the local spam detection.
