Workshop on Algorithms, Complexity, and Logic (Theorietag 2026)

About the Workshop

This “Theorietag” – a workshop on Algorithms, Complexity, and Logic – is organized jointly by the three GI (German Informatics Society) working groups on Algorithms (https://fg-algo.gi.de/), Complexity (https://fg-kp.gi.de/), and Logic in Computer Science (https://fg-loginf.gi.de/).

It is designed to bring together researchers from these three fields of theoretical computer science and to support broad and lively scientific discussions. In addition, the workshop provides a valuable platform for early-stage researchers to showcase their work and to expand their professional networks. There are no formal proceedings, which allows participants to present both published and unpublished research without any conflict with previous or future publications. A core objective of the workshop is to strengthen connections between younger and more established researchers.

The Theorietag 2026 will take place at Technische Universität Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau) on March 31st and April 1st, 2026 in the old town (Curiebau, C-Hs, Weimarer Str. 25, in Ilmenau). Inquiries regarding the organisation of Theorietag 2026 might be directed to theorietag2026@tu-ilmenau.de.

The Theorietag has a long tradition and is usually held once or twice a year. The most recent "Theorietag Algorithms, Complexity, and Logic" was held in Augsburg in October 2025.

INVITED SPEAKERS

Portrait of Stefan MengelTU Ilmenau

Stefan Mengel (CRIL-CNRS / Université d’Artois)

Stefan Mengel is a tenured full-time senior researcher at CNRS the French National Centre for Scientific Research and is working in Lens, France. Before joining CNRS in 2015, he spent two years as a postdoc at Ecole Polytechnique in France. He holds a PhD in math from University of Paderborn. He got a Diploma degree in math at TU Ilmenau where he studied mostly in the building in which the Theorietag takes place. Stefan's research is mostly on applications of theoretical computer science, in particular complexity theory, to questions from database theory and artificial intelligence.
