Application for a doctorate at the faculty

You have now arrived in Ilmenau, orient yourself on campus and establish personal contact with your faculty, your department and your supervisor. Within the first semester at our university, you should now work out and determine the exact topic of your doctorate together with your doctoral supervisor in order to apply for acceptance as a doctoral candidate by your faculty in the next step.

If you have successfully completed step 1, you must now apply to be accepted as a doctoral candidate at your faculty. To do this, contact the dean's office of your faculty in consultation with your supervisor. Here you will be informed which documents you have to submit.

As a rule, you will need all the documents that you submitted during the central application. Since the faculty has the authority to decide whether or not to accept you as a doctoral candidate, it has the right to check all the documents again.

After reviewing your documents, your faculty will decide on your acceptance as a doctoral candidate in the faculty council. In the positive case, you are now an official doctoral student at TU Ilmenau.

You will now work on your research project, write your dissertation and prepare for the doctoral examination procedure (Promotionsverfahren), including your doctoral examination.
