Enrolment as a PhD Student

  • When you enrol as a doctoral student for the first time, you are also registered at the University.

    This website explains the first-time enrolment and the associated registration at the university.

    Please note the difference to the transition from Master to doctoral studies for students already enroled at the university.

    The following documents issued by the university as a result of an application enable enrolment as a PhD student under certain conditions.

Enrolment procedure

  • Step 1 : Log in to the Campus Portal

    Please log in to the Campus Portal using your Applicant-Account in the role of applicant.

  • Step 2: Fill in short application and submit

    Select a starting semester and a PhD program. The specific PhD program is a technical tool and should correspond to the field of your doctoral research. Complete the application online via the Campus Portal and upload the required documents.

    Submit the short application electronically to TUIL within the application period.
  • Step 3 : Enter data for online registration

    After reviewing your application the Registration Office will activate the online enrolment procedure.

    Start the online enrolment procedure in the Campus Portal and fill in the required information in the relevant sections.
  • Step 4 : Provisional registration

    The Registration Office will provide you on the Campus Portal with a confirmation of provisional enrolment and a request to pay the semester contribution via bank transfer.

    Please pay the semester contribution as soon as possible. Be sure to use the payment reference provided in the payment request.
  • Step 5: Health insured status
    (only until you turn 30)

    Contact a public health insurance company in Germany and ask them to verify your health insured status.

    Once the verification is complete, the public health insurance company will report your insured status to the university via the electronic student reporting system.
  • Step 6: Confirmation of enrolment

    Once the semester contribution has been credited, if applicable a notification from a public health insurance company regarding your insured status has been received via the electronic student registration procedure, and you have been enroled as a PhD student, the name of your PhD program will appear in the Student Services.

    Please log in to the Campus Portal using your Uni-Account in the role of student. After clicking on the Student Service tile, your PhD program will be displayed under My Degree Programs.
