Enrolment as a PhD student

Applying to the Department responsible for the subject area of the dissertation by submitting a doctoral request (Promotionsgesuch) ideally leads to documented acceptance as a doctoral candidate.

According to the university doctoral regulations, the supervisor declaration is a declaration of willingness or a supervision agreement. Both documents are the result of an agreement with a professor or research assistant at the University regarding the supervision of the dissertation.

If acceptance as a doctoral candidate cannot be proven at the time of application for enrolment, enrolment (registration upon first-time enrolment) will take place after submission of the supervisor declaration for a limited period of time, at the latest until the end of the re-registration period for the second semester.
