Standard period of study

  • The examination and study regulations of each degree program include a curriculum of study. The number of semesters specified therein for complete study of the degree program in attendance constitutes the standard period of study for this degree program. The standard period of study is thus related to the study program and is specified in semesters.

    At the TU Ilmenau the standard period of study is as follows 6 or 7 semesters for Bachelor programs and 3 or 4 semesters for Master programs.

Coronavirus Pandemic

  • Individual standard period of study

    To avoid pandemic-related disadvantages for students registered at German universities in the semesters SoSe 2020, WiSe 2020, SoSe 2021 or WiSe 2021, the individual standard period of study was introduced.

    For affected students, the individual standard period of study takes the place of the actual program-related standard period of study.

    The pandemic-related individual standard period of study can be a maximum of 4 semesters larger than the actual program-related standard period of study.
  • SoSe 2020

    With the Corona Statutes of the TU Ilmenau, the ability was given to not count the SoSe 2020 towards the standard period of study by application. If an application is submitted, the individual standard period of study is therefore increased by 1 semester for the students concerned.
  • WiSe 2020

    For all students who were enroled in a degree program at a Thuringian university during the Corona Pandemic in WiSe 2020 and were not on leave of absence, the individual standard period of study is automatically increased by 1 semester due to the ThürCorHG § 6.

  • SoSe 2021

    For all students who were enroled in a degree program at a Thuringian university during the Corona Pandemic in SS 2021 and were not on leave of absence, the individual standard period of study is automatically increased by 1 semester due to the ThürCorHG § 6.

    For all students who were enroled in a degree program at a Thuringian university during the Corona Pandemic in WiSe 2021 and were not on leave of absence, the individual standard period of study is automatically increased by 1 semester due to the ThürCorHVO § 2.
