Fee for exceeding standard period of study

  • Higher education institutions charge students a fee of EUR 500 for each semester by which the standard period of study for a degree program leading to a first professional degree, or for a Bachelor and consecutive Master degree program, is exceeded by more than four semesters.

Fee obligation

  • Due date

    Fees and contributions are generally due in the re-registration period for the following semester.

    Students who are liable to pay the fee will receive a fee notification from the Student Office immediately before each re-registration period for the following semester.

Postpone or waiver

  • Requests to Student Office

    There is the option to postpone the fee obligation for the first due date or to waiver the fee obligation in case of repeated due date.

    A prerequisite for this is the timely submission and approval of one of the following requests during the re-registration period for the following semester.
  • Request for leave of absence

    If you submit a request for a leave of absence for the following semester during the re-registration period and it is approved by the Student Office, you will not be required to pay the fee for exceeding the standard period of study.

  • Request in case of committee  activity

    If you are nearing the final exam in your degree program and provide proof of this to the Student Office during the re-registration period, you will not be required to pay the fee once the Student Office approves your request.

    As a rule, an informal application with an equally informal confirmation of your committee activity from the committee board is sufficient proof.
  • Request in case of serious illness

    If you are suffering from the effects of a chronic or serious illness that extends the duration of your studies and you can prove this to the Student Office during the re-registration period, you do not have to pay the fee.

    As a rule, an informal application with an equally informal confirmation from your doctor - issued no more than one month ago - is sufficient as proof.
  • Request in case of temporal proximity to the final exam

    If you are close to the final examination in your degree program and can prove this to the Student Office during the re-registration period, you do not have to pay the fee.

    Please use the appropriate form from the Student Office and, after it has been approved by your Exam Office, email it to the Student Office.
