generally required when applying through uni-assist.
German Language Certificate
At the time of application for a bachelor degree program with German as language of instruction, applicants must submit at least a B1 CEFR language certificate (see the uni-assist language table for GERMAN: Category C).
When applying for a master degree program with German as language of instruction, you must submit at least a B2 CEFR language certificate (see the uni-assist language table for GERMAN: Category C+).
At the time of application for a master degree program with English as language of instruction, applicants must submit at least a B2 CEFR language certificate (see uni-assist Reference framework for ENGLISH: Category 3).
Confirmation for English as language of instruction
No language certificate is required if the language of instruction for the desired degree program is English, which is also the official language and the language of education in the applicant’s home country. In this case, confirmation of the language of instruction from the educational institution (secondary school or university) is sufficient.
The Academic Verification Office (APS) is an agency of the German Embassy in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). It operates in China, Vietnam, and India. The APS verifies whether submitted transcripts are authentic and issues a certificate if the verification is successful.
Statement of Purpose (Master MCS and Master IBE applicants only)
The Special Provisions of the Examination and Study Regulations for the Master in Media and Communication Science and Master in International Business Economics programs require applicants to submit a statement of purpose.
For degrees from a foreign educational institution, an explanation of the foreign university’s grading system is required. This enables the Admission Office to convert the academic results into the German educational system.
