Our group will be supervising two inter-disciplinary PhD projects on sustainable and energy-efficient computing in the Ilmenau School of Green Electronics (ISGE). This includes a full four-years funding! Applications via the central ISGE job posting are accepted till 5 May 2024.

Assistants ("Hiwis")

Hiwi Job: Deployment of RIOT OS for embedded hardware

Volume: total of ca. 40h, duration 1–2 months

The goal of this task is to deploy the RIOT operating systems for energy-efficient embedded devices on a Micro Bit v2 board. It will involve a thorough study of comprehensive documentation of both hardware and software.

Key results:

  • establishment of a deployment process, which allows to flash the boards with the RIOT kernel and any custom programs written both in C or Rust
  • replication of the required hardware/software setup for at least 10 boards, such that it is sufficiently efficient and robust for teaching purposes (physically in our lab)
  • thorough documentation of the above

Required qualifications:

  • basic understanding of embedded systems
  • ability and willingness to learn required background knowlege of RIOT and the Micro Bit hardware
  • reliable, careful and punctual working style
