The majority of adolescents today come into contact with pornographic media content on the internet—sometimes unintentionally, but even more often intentionally. This creates a need within sexuality education to provide age-appropriate guidance on pornographic content, so that young people are not left alone with their sexual media experiences.
The Media Psychology and Media Design Group at Technische Universität Ilmenau, together with professionals in sexuality education from AWO and Youthwork NRW, worked on adolescent pornography use and pedagogical support as part of the PASeBi project (Pornography in Everyday Life and in the Sexual Education of Adolescents) from 2023 to 2025. Among other outcomes, this work resulted in a practical article for educational professionals that offers 10 recommendations for addressing the topic, published in Zeitschrift für Sexualforschung.
