Research focus and scientific topics of the department

The "Energy Usage Optimization" group conducts research in the field of ecologically and economically optimal provision and use of grid-bound energy sources such as electricity, gas and heating/cooling, taking into account the fluctuating feed-in of wind and solar energy as well as available energy flexibility and storage potential.

The research focus and scientific topics of the group include

- Methods for energy system analysis for sectoral and cross-sectoral energy supply systems

- Methods for transformation planning and optimal system operation

- Optimized integration and use of renewable energies across sector boundaries

- Modeling of energy storage technologies and their use in different sectors

- Development of energy flow models and simulation tools for coupled systems

- Digital technologies for the integration and control of energy systems with a special focus on energy management and energy data management

- Machine learning and AI for predicting and optimizing energy supply
