Technische Universität Ilmenau (Ilmenau University of Technology), located in the centre of Germany, has a long academic tradition since 1894. With 7,000 students, about 1,000 employees, and its emphasis on innovative research, TU Ilmenau is one of the leading universities of technology in Germany. In addition to intensive basic research, applied and industry-oriented research have become trademarks of the university. The university sets high standards for the quality of education and study conditions. To this end, the combination of a personal atmosphere with a good social environment is a characteristic feature of this university.
The area of mobile communications has been established as one of the six research clusters of TU Ilmenau with the participation of over 10 different research laboratories including the Communications Research Laboratory. A major focus of its research includes future wireless communication systems (5G, 6G, and beyond), array signal processing, as well as multi-linear algebra and its applications in communications and signal processing. The Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) emphasizes activities that give its research a strong international profile. Academic staff members serve on the editorial boards of prestigious international journals and contribute to the organization of important international conferences. The CRL has played a central role in several strategic European research projects such as WINNER, OMEGA, SAPHYRE, and EMPhAtiC as well as in bilateral cooperation projects with Great Britain, Brazil, Israel, and Russia. Research students are encouraged to report their work at leading international conferences and publish in highest impact journals.
