INFO 12 - Carrels and group study rooms

1. General

In the University Library there are in total eight rooms for group work and seven carrels provided, and all are equipped with power supply and Internet access for notebooks brought along. Two of the eight group workrooms are equipped with beamers, another group workroom with a smart display. The group workrooms with beamers and the 5 carrels for use for a maximum of 4 weeks must be booked at the Information desk High demand for these rooms means that members of the university (students and staff members) are given priority over other visitors of the library.

     

2. group workrooms

The rooms are intended for users who want to get together in small groups of between 3 and 10 people to learn or work on something together. However, they are not suitable as seminar or conference rooms. As in the rest of the library, eating and drinking is not permitted in the group study rooms.

2.1 Group study rooms requiring reservation

There are three group study rooms requiring reservations located on the first floor. Group Study Rooms 1 & 2 are equipped with a projector, a whiteboard, and on the table eight power outlets for notebooks brought in. Pens for whiteboards, VGA and network cables, extension cords can be checked out at the counter.

The Group Study Room+ (GARplus) offers new possibilities: Tables and chairs can be rearranged as needed, drinks and snacks may be consumed, and there is a game collection for a little distraction in between.

The group study rooms can be reserved for a whole day or just by the hour. To do so, please contact the information desk. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please cancel in advance. Groups arriving a quarter of an hour or more late are no longer entitled to the group study room; it may be given to other interested parties.

You will receive the key upon presentation of your thoska+ card. By doing so, you accept the conditions of use stated in the library's rules of use and in this info sheet.

2.2 Free group study rooms

There are five group study rooms on the intermediate storey and basement levels that do not require reservations. Rooms 4-7 are equipped with a whiteboard. Pens for the whiteboards can be borrowed from the counter.

Rooms 4-6 in the intermediate storey are equipped with displays to which notebooks can be connected.

Group study room 7 in the basement (room 1080, next to the carrels) is only equipped with a whiteboard. If needed, a beamer and other accessories can be borrowed at the counter.

Group work room 3 is equipped with a smart display.

The following functions are possible:

  • You can use the display as a beamer.
  • You can use the display interactively with multitouch functionality and also control your laptop via it.

The freehand tools of MS Office can be used in the office programs. You can get all the materials you need at the counter.

These group workrooms are available to workgroups for free use, but are not intended as individual workstations. Independent reservations are also not permitted.

2.3 Instructions for use

  • Please do not remove furniture from the group study room or bring in extra ones there.
  • Books from the library that you have taken into the group study rooms must be returned when you leave the room.
  • Lock the room requiring reservations when you leave and return the key to the information desk. The key must not leave the library! The person who has been given the key is the library's contact person. He/she is liable to the library for any damage caused by members of the group.

3. Individual work cabins (carrels)

Carrels are very useful when you have planned to work in the library for a longer period and have looked for an undisturbed permanent workstation. In addition to 5 carrels for use for at least one to a maximum of six weeks, the University Library also offers 2 day carrels that can be can be used on an hourly or daily basis. The day carrels cannot be not be reserved in advance.

3.1 Booking carrels

Carrels for use for a minimum of one to a maximum of six weeks can only be reserved online. Extensions are possible if no further reservations have been made.

You will receive the key on presentation of your thoska+ card; thus stating that you accept and recognize the User Rules of the University Library and the User Regulations listed on this information sheet.

The key must be collected within two days after the beginning of the booking period and the person who booked the carrel must have "moved” into; otherwise the reservation will expire and the room is offered for another booking.

3.2 Instructions for use

  • Non-circulation book (reference books) must be locked at night!
    These books and media may only be kept in the carrels for short-term use and have to be returned to the locations the same day when leaving the carrel. The library is entitled to carry out unannounced inspections. Media which have not been properly borrowed are removed and returned to their locations and, in case of reoccurrence, the user may be deprived from the right of using the carrel.
  • Should a carrel not be used for more than two opening days, it is cleared and made available for the person who has asked for a booking.
    Items then found in the carrel are considered lost items. Library books are removed, re-booked and returned to their locations.
  • Lock your carrel when you leave it and leave the key at the information desk. The library is not liable for private items kept in the carrel.
  • Please switch off the light, the computer and the screen when you leave the room.
