Working with devices in the UB: PCs, WLAN, multifunctional devices, USB sticks & Co.

The UB offers various devices for use. Information on their use can be found in the listed areas.
Multifunction devices
There are several multifunction devices for copying, printing and scanning available in the University Library. The devices are located in rooms 2130 (intermediate storey) and 3140 (ground floor).
To use the multifunctional devices, you need a thoska of the TU Ilmenau, which is charged with at least 0,50 €.
Book scanner
Two book scanners are available in the University Library. The devices are located in room 2130 (intermediate storey).
You do not need a thoska or other card to use the book scanners. The use of the book scanners is free of charge. You can only save the documents directly to your USB stick in PDF, TIFF or JPEG format.
For more information on "Copy, Print, Scan", see the FAQs.
The University Library in the Leibniz Building has a total of 61 user computers on three floors. (see also INFO 2 - General terms of use : 4. Use of the computer workstations).
The user computers are switched on by pressing a key or clicking the mouse. Then you have to log in as a university member or as a guest. You then have a Windows desktop with a web browser at your disposal. University members still have access to their home directory and Office programmes. It is possible to use USB sticks.
It is possible to print from all of the above applications. You must be logged in with the university login. However, with the guest login it is possible to save files to a USB stick. In order to save something to a USB stick, it must always be connected before calling up the application. If this is forgotten, the application must be closed, the USB stick connected and the application restarted.
At the workstations with computers, there is a USB socket on the connector strip to which the USB stick can be connected.
This has no function at the desks without computers.
The network sockets in the desks are currently not wired. At the desks with computers, they will not have any function in the future either. At the tables without computers, the network sockets are configured as public network sockets so that the user's own laptop can be connected there. You will find information on public network sockets further down on this website.
In the UB, the WLAN network "eduroam" is available.
Members of the TU Ilmenau can find information about the configuration on the service pages of the University Computer Center at:
https://intranet.tu-ilmenau.de/site/unirz/SitePages/TUILM-WLAN.aspx
For automated configuration we recommend the "eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool" https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=5235.
Alternatively, the app "geteduroam" (https://www.geteduroam.app/) can be used for smartphones, among others.
If you have any questions or require further information, please contact the UniRZ:

Public network sockets are available in the University Library in the Leibniz Building in the carrels and in the reading area at the places where there are no computers or where the network sockets are not marked with red dots.
A suitable network cable is required for connection. A limited number of such cables can be borrowed from the counter in the main library.
Instructions for the eduroam Windows configuration:
VPN access to licensed e-books, online databases, electronic journals and the GVK union catalogue.
Access via VPN is only relevant if you are not in the TU Ilmenau network.
If you then have a permanent internet connection (e.g. DSL), you must open a VPN connection to the TU Ilmenau. In addition, all your internet traffic must be routed through the TU Ilmenau for the duration of the access. In this case, use the VPN profile "VPN-extern-full" of the UniRZ.
Information on this can be found on the web pages of the University Computer Centre of the TU Ilmenau: https://intranet.tu-ilmenau.de/site/unirz.
If you have opened the VPN connection to the TU Ilmenau with the VPN profile "VPN-extern-full", you should then reload the page from the server and not from the browser cache.
A VPN connection is not required to access free online resources and the GVK.
