Project information

The possibilities of modern image processing are to be applied in this project both in the field of medical diagnostics and in the field of tissue engineering. The functional principle of image-based analysis of a submitted tissue and the subsequent evaluation for diagnostics on the one hand, and for the identification of certain characteristics in biological tissue on the other, should improve the ability to obtain and cultivate primary biological tissue. The aim is to achieve a significant leap in the quality of primary cell material for use in drug development and research. The sub-project at TU Ilmenau will focus on the development and testing of a biopsy module. This will be used to automatically take samples from various tissues at the positions specified by the image processing. These are then to be transferred to a specialized sample carrier that also serves as a culture medium. The measurement and dimensional qualification of the biopsies should, where possible, take place in the sample carrier. Animal liver tissue will be used as demonstration tissue.
