Brief description

The bachelor's degree with a master's degree in vocational education is unique in Thuringia. It is offered jointly with the University of Erfurt on a consecutive basis. At the TU Ilmenau, you study two subjects in the bachelor's degree: one vocational subject - metal technology or electrical engineering - and one general subject: Mathematics. The Master of Education at the University of Erfurt then supplements this with educational science and subject didactic content.

The goal of the program is to train you as a teacher at a vocational school: as a teacher of electrical engineering or metal technology at a vocational school, a technical high school or a vocational special school, or as a mathematics teacher at a vocational high school.

Alternatively, after completing your bachelor's degree, you can go on to study for a master's degree in engineering at the TU Ilmenau, which will prepare you for a wide range of careers in industry and business.

Either way, you have a job guarantee with your degree: The demand for teachers for vocational schools is just as huge as the demand for engineers.

With this degree I will have the opportunity to work as a teacher or engineer in the future.

Why Ilmenau?

Because studying in Ilmenau is fun! Because the study conditions here are optimal: The distances from lecture hall to lecture hall, to the seminar room or to the laboratory are short and the contact to the teaching staff is fast and direct. Small tutorial groups and an excellent supervision ratio ensure that you receive intensive and individual support. To make it easier for you to start your studies, we have set up a mentoring and tutoring program. In this way, you will receive the best possible support, especially at the beginning.

Early on in your studies, we will involve you in research projects and arrange internships or student assistant jobs for you at one of the numerous research institutes in the vicinity of the university. Whether it's the IMMS Institute for Microelectronic and Mechatronic Systems or the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Systems Technology (AST): In Ilmenau, you can help shape the future in a very practical way.

For example, in the numerous student associations and initiatives: Whether Engineers without Borders, Research Association for Electronic Media or Initiative Solidarische Welt Ilmenau e.V.: In Ilmenau, you can also get involved and develop in many ways outside of your studies!
