Inverse Methods

Source localization is a widely used methodology in neurophysiology and neuropsychology, since it opens the possibility to relate the measured bioelectric potentials and biomagnetic fields to intracranial activity with a high time resolution. Other applications of source localization are in the area of pre-surgical mapping or diagnosis of epileptic patients. The underlying mathematical problem (inverse problem) has no unique solution, since many source configurations can explain the measured data. In other areas of technology like the reconstruction of magnetic nanoparticles or in geo-prospection inverse methods are applied, too.
