The Institute for Biomedical Technology and Informatics (BMTI) focuses on research and development of technology-oriented methods and systems for early detection, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation. The Institute for Biomedical Technology and Informatics was audited according to the Quality Assurance System for Education of the German Society for Medical Technology (GGMT) and was the first educational institution to be awarded the RAL quality mark.
The Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Biomedical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering by Research are strongly research-oriented and offer an excellent student-teacher ratio.
Biomedical engineering is technology for life. Together with medical partners, it develops new methods for the detection and treatment of diseases and implements them in high-performance medical technology systems.
Ilmenau University of Technology has a long and successful tradition in biomedical engineering. The Institute of Electromedical and Radiological Technology was founded in 1953 at the former Department of Electrical Engineering and was the first university in Europe to introduce a degree course in biomedical engineering.
