Imbalances occur when components rotate due to asymmetrically distributed mass, which can be caused by material or production tolerances. The higher the speed, the greater the effect of the resulting forces, e.g. through vibrations on the component, the rotor axis and the machine environment. In addition to vibrations, these imbalances cause increased wear and tear and can also affect the performance of the corresponding devices. Therefore, for many applications, the imbalances must be determined and reduced to a sufficiently small amount by means of counterweights or material removal.
The robust and exact determination of imbalances in rapidly rotating machine parts and their elimination is of major interest in many industrial applications and also in sub-areas of biomedical technology.
The research goals of this subproject are the development of robust optimization methods with reduced influence of disturbances for the determination of imbalances as well as the optimization of sequence programs for the automated vertical balancing. Vertical systems have comparatively high technological requirements and difficulties, the solution of which is the focus of this project.
