In cooperation with the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, a ward informations system has been developed. The intention centered on harmonization of the user interface and the clinical activities. The interface design focused on a bed-centered perspective, which is effective in providing a direct and complete overview of the ward and in avoiding time-consuming searches. Basic parts of the application are a framework and client/server architecture. CORBA is applied for client/server communication. The object-oriented database POET represents the data storage. The information system itself is a Java application.
