Our research group Media and Communication Management was once again represented at this year's European Media Management Association (emma) conference. The conference was organized by a team from the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona from June 7th to 9th, 2023.

From our department, Miriam Bernhard, Andreas Will, and Jonas Weber attended. Our external doctoral candidates, Jasmin Ebert and Anja Noster, were also present at the conference. The main theme of this year's emma was "Media Trust," which was discussed in various panels, roundtable discussions, and the keynote address. In addition to the main theme, various other current issues in the media industry were addressed. Artificial Intelligence (AI), in particular, was repeatedly identified as a trend that requires scientific research. In addition to the main conference, participants also had the opportunity to attend various workshops, such as those focused on further developing their own papers.

Miriam Bernard presented initial results from two studies that examined organizational learning in media companies:

  1. "Learning media organizations: A systematic contextualization within the general management landscape" (Co-author: Andreas Will)
  2. "How do media organizations learn? A triangulation study" (Co-authors: Andreas Will and Britta Gossel)

Furthermore, Jonas Weber presented the results of the paper "Do we know what we mean when we talk about platforms? – A literature-based review of how the term 'platform' is used" (Co-author: Andreas Will).

After three days of constructive discussions and networking, we are already looking forward to the next emma conference, which will take place next year in Leeuwarden in the Netherlands.
