Interview study on use of online contraception information

Social media such as Instagram, YouTube and TikTok have become important sources of health information for young people. This includes information about sexual and reproductive health, including contraception. A qualitative interview study with 12 adolescents and young adults explored how contraceptive information is used and valued on social media. In addition, it was explored what requirements young people have for optimal contraception education on social media platforms.

The study was conducted by the Media Psychology and Media Design Group at Technische Universität Ilmenau and emerged from a research project funded by the German Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA).

Research

Complex scientific questions and problems can often not be solved from the perspective of a single science alone. Interdisciplinarity, i.e. interdisciplinary cooperation, is therefore of great importance. Both inter-department cooperation at the TU Ilmenau and beyond its borders bundle competences and are an indispensable part of research at the IfMK.
