Our Media and Communication Management research group was represented at this year's European Media Management Association (emma) conference. This was held in Munich from 15 to 17 June 2022 by a team from Macromedia University of Applied Sciences.

Representing the Media and Communication Management group, Miriam Bernhard  Andreas Will, Jonas Weber, and Nigar Zahan took part in the event. Our former colleagues Britta Gossel (now HNEE) and Sophia Gänßle from TU Ilmenau’s Economic Theory research group joined the conference as well.

The main topic at the conference was “Reorganization of Media Industries: Digital Transformation, Entrepreneurship, and Regulation.”

During the conference attendees addressed pressing issues in the media industry such as the financing of media content, the willingness to pay for media content, the organization of coverage of the Ukraine war, and the organization within media companies. They exchanged thoughts and insights and took part in various workshops.

Miriam Bernard presented the first results of two studies exploring organizational learning in media organizations:

  1. “How is entrepreneurial orientation related to learning in media organizations?” (co-authors: Britta M. Gossel and Andreas Will)

  2. “How do media organizations learn? A comparative study between German and US media organizations” (co-authors: Jonas Weber, Britta M. Gossel, and Andreas Will)

Moreover, Miriam Bernhard was one of the grant recipients. The Early Career Researcher EMMA Annual Conference Grant aims to support young researchers to get exposure and recognition for their work. Two grants of up to €1000 were available to allow the recipient to offset registration, travel, visa, and accommodation expenses associated with attending the conference.

The group had a constructive three days of discussion and networking and look forward to the next conference at the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona.
