"Together is less alone?" This is the title of our latest research project which was presented by Jonas Weber during a poster session at the International Communication Association's (ICA) conference. This research project dealt with cooperation between media organisations. The study was conducted by Jonas Weber, Miriam Bernhard, Andreas Will, and, our former colleague Britta Gossel.
We investigated the extent to which media organisations communicate about cooperation and the nature of this cooperation. For this purpose, the five companies with the largest newspapers from Germany and the USA were selected. We examined their press releases from 2017 to 2021 with the help of qualitative content analysis.
Our findings indicate that there is a trend toward more cooperation within media organisations. In most cases of cooperation, resources are pooled. In addition, it is striking that the US organisations tend to approach cooperation holistically and include several different aspects in their cooperation, whereas in German media organisations cooperation seems to be focused on specific aspects.
