Contraception in Social Media

Research Group Media Psychology investigates the portrayal of contraception on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and in the Wikipedia

On social media platforms, health is an important topic. This also applies to sexual and reproductive health. A central topic area here is the various methods of contraception, their effectiveness, use and side effects.

Funded by the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZgA), the Research Group Media Psychology and Media Design uses media content analysis and interviews to investigate how different contraceptive methods are presented and discussed on different social media platforms. For example, discourses on social media play an important role in connection with growing "pill fatigue" among young women and the desire for hormone-free contraception.
