The German Communication Association (DGPuK) awards an annual journal prize. The three best articles of the previous year in the journals 1) Publizistik, 2) Medien & Kommunikationswissenschaft (M&K), and 3) Studies in Communication and Media (SCM) are awarded. Among the 2022 winners was an SCM publication from the research group Media Psychology and Media Design on iconographies of child sexual abuse. The journal article analyzes which symbolic photos are used in the press when reporting on child sexual abuse, elaborates on the central image motifs, and critically evaluates them based on criteria of media quality and media ethics. The jury recognized the relevance of the study's topic as well as its solid methodology.
