SCM Special Issue on Representations of Sexuality

Prof. Döring active as guest editor

In today's media landscape, we tend to find more and also more explicit depictions of sexuality. This applies, for example, to ubiquitous online pornography, but also to references to sexuality in music or in TV and streaming series. Corresponding changes towards more and also more explicit representations of sexuality in the media are critically discussed as "pornification". However, little research has been conducted into the exact nature of media representations of sexuality and the discourses surrounding them. Issue 4 / 2024 of the communication studies journal SCM is therefore planned as a special issue on "Media representations of Sexuality in an era of Pornification".

SCM (Studies in Communication and Media) is an organ of the German Communication Association (DGPuK) and associated with the International Communication Association (ICA). The special issue is edited by Prof. Nicola Döring from the Research Group Media Psychology and Media Design at the TU Ilmenau in collaboration with other guest editors: Prof. Nicole Krämer (University of Duisburg-Essen), Dr. Dan J. Miller (James Cook University, Australia), Prof. Thorsten Quandt (University of Münster) and Prof. Gerhard Vowe (HHU Duesseldorf). Submissions of papers in German and English are welcome until April 1, 2024.
