When young people have questions about sexuality, their first point of contact today is usually the internet—because it is quick and discreet. In addition to searching for sexual information via search engines and social media, tools based on generative artificial intelligence (AI) have recently gained importance in sexual education and socialization. For example, young people ask ChatGPT about contraception methods, experiment with erotic AI chatbots, view AI-generated sexual images, or even create them themselves.
In her practical contribution to the specialist journal merz, Prof. Nicola Döring from the Media Psychology and Media Design Group at TU Ilmenau encourages addressing young people's AI-related sexual experiences pedagogically—so they are not left to navigate these experiences alone.
