Research from the CO-HUMANICS project presented
Two contributions from the Media Psychology and Media Design Group at TU Ilmenau were presented at the 27th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI International 2025) held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from July 22–27, 2025. Both were conducted as part of the interdisciplinary research project CO-HUMANICS, which aims to design innovative technologies that foster the social integration of older adults.
Veronika Mikhailova presented a lab study involving N = 16 older adults exploring the use of a wearable augmented reality communication system. The study examined how older users engage with AR technology in terms of usability, acceptance, and social presence. Her work received the Best Paper Award, recognizing its outstanding quality and relevance.
Melisa Conde contributed a poster presenting findings from a co-design workshop with N = 13 older adults on human-robot gesture interaction. The study investigated how gestures can be designed and interpreted as natural forms of communication with a telepresence robot.
Both studies contribute to the technical and social development of future communication solutions for older adults and emphasize the importance of user-centered technology design.
