Löffelholz, Martin;
Von Tschernobyl zur Corona-Infodemie: Entwicklung, Ergebnisse und Herausforderungen der Risiko- und Krisenkommunikationsforschung. - In: Risiken, Krisen, Konflikte, (2022), S. 27-48

AR in TV: design and evaluation of mid-air gestures for moderators to control augmented reality applications in TV. - In: 20th International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia, (2022), S. 137-147

Recent developments in augmented reality for TV productions encouraged broadcasters to enhance interaction with virtual content for moderators. However, traditional interaction methods are considered distracting and not intuitive. To overcome these issues, we performed a gesture elicitation study with a follow-up evaluation. For this, we considered TV moderators as primary users of the gestures as well as viewers as recipients. The elicited gesture set consists of five gestures for two types of camera shots (long shot and close shot). Findings of the evaluation study indicate that the derived set of gestures requires low physical and concentration effort from moderators. Also, both moderators and viewers found them appropriate to be used in TV with respect to understandability, distraction, likeability, and appropriateness. Using these gestures would allow moderators to control AR content in TV and tell stories in a modern and more expressive way.

The effect of self-healing on process acceptance. - In: Business Process Management workshops, (2022), S. 299-311

According to the process acceptance theory, the acceptance of processes can have an influence on their correct execution. If deviations and manipulations of processes of any kind are to be excluded, it is necessary to understand which factors lead to a change in acceptance. To this end an experimental study is conducted to investigate the influence of self-healing in case of process error. A generic purchasing process is implemented and made available online. The acquisition of participants takes place via the crowdsourcing platform Amazon's Mechanical Turk. Process acceptance is measured by means of a questionnaire in the three dimensions of attitude (cognitive, affective and conative). The study shows that there is a significant difference in acceptance between processes with and without self-healing in the cognitive dimension. The results of the tests indicate that self-healing is not automatically more accepted than repeated manual effort. A tentative explanation is that a loss of participants' control of the process leads to this apparently counterintuitive result.

Iconography of child sexual abuse in the news (justice and crime reporting). - In: Database of Variables for Content Analysis, ISSN 2673-8597, (2022), S. 1-6

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a major global problem (Barth et al., 2013). Therefore, it is important for researchers in communication science to systematically examine the representation of the CSA issue in the media using manual and computational methods of content analysis. According to previous review papers (Popoviâc, 2018; Weatherred, 2015), existing content-analytical studies are mostly manual and limited to newspaper articles and the text level. Currently, it is unclear what kind of visual representations are used to illustrate the CSA issue in the media. We therefore present a tested new instrument to analyze the dominant image motifs (= iconography) in CSA news media coverage (Döring & Walter, 2021).
