The department's research combines basic research into high-precision optical measurement methods with application research, often together with interdisciplinary partners, in a wide range of fields. Furthermore, the transfer of these technologies is to be accompanied until they are ready for application.
Interferometric signal processing is at the center of the unifying theme, surrounded by three main fields of application. Nanometrology and sensor technology is the main application area of the department, particularly with applications in nanofabrication technology. In addition, there are also areas of application in fiber optic sensor technology and interferometric imaging. Innovative research topics for the further development of the research profile are continuously being researched.
