Publisher-specific Open Access agreements

The TU Ilmenau also promotes Open Access publishing via special agreements with publishers. These offers can be used by members and affiliates of the TU Ilmenau. Affiliation with the TU Ilmenau must be clearly indicated by “Technische Universität Ilmenau” or “TU Ilmenau” (see also notes on publishing). Please use your TU Ilmenau institutional email address throughout the publication process. If you are affiliated with several institutions, the primary affiliation should be the institution where the research work was mainly carried out (other affiliations/email addresses can be specified). Funding year 2026 (term of the contract: 2024 to 2028)
Access rights to almost the entire Elsevier journal portfolio and open access publication rights for authors from TU Ilmenau with the status submitting corresponding author in more than 2,500 Elsevier journals (including the journals of the Cell Press and The Lancet brands). For the first time, the costs will be based entirely on the number of publications with corresponding author status.
A distinction must be made between hybrid journals (subscription journals in which articles can optionally be published open access, "hybrid") and open access journals ("gold") in the journal groups Elsevier Core, Cell Press (CP) and The Lancet (TL) (journal list, spreadsheet "included", see column "Bucket" for distinction).
Hybrid journals: Corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau publish open access in the hybrid journals. The costs incurred for this will be covered by a joint fund of the faculties and the University Library in 2026. For the costs per article ("PAR fee"): see [1].
Please note: The cost obligation for TU Ilmenau remains in place even if you reject the Open Access option.
Open access journals: Discounted publication fees are charged for articles in open access journals and invoiced to TU Ilmenau on a quarterly basis. These invoices are initially processed centrally by the University Library, but are then transferred (proportionally) to your cost center. In addition, DEAS gGmbH will invoice a service fee of EUR 93.09 (gross) separately for each period; these costs must be taken into account in the cost calculation (service fee; only available in German). You can already apply for cost sharing through the TU Ilmenau Publication Fund when you submit your article (link; information on the new process). The general funding conditions apply, in particular a maximum funding amount. If you do not submit an application for funding, the Open Access Services team will create a new process in the BIC portal of the TU Ilmenau and send it to you for completion as soon as the publisher notifies us of the acceptance of your article. The cost model of the contract will be gradually transformed over the term of the contract and ultimately measured according to the number of publications with corresponding author status ("Responsible Corresponding Author"). No PAR fee is charged for non-research articles (= editorial notes, book reviews, letters, reports).
