Publisher-specific open access agreements
The TU Ilmenau also promotes Open Access publishing via special agreements with publishers. These offers can be used by members and affiliates of the TU Ilmenau. Please state your affiliation clearly (Ilmenau University of Technology or TU Ilmenau, see also Notes on Publishing) and use your TU Ilmenau e-mail address. - Contract period: 09.12.2022 to 01.12.2023
- As part of a consortium agreement, a discount of 15% on the publication charges (APCs) for articles in the Gold Open Access journal "Science Advances" is granted. This discount must be actively claimed. Please contact the Open Access Team of the University Library for the relevant information (openaccess.ub@tu-ilmenau.de).
- You can apply for article fees to be covered by the TU Ilmenau publication fund up to a maximum of 1,800 EUR (link to form).
- Contract period: 2021 to 2023
- A distinction must be made between fully Open Access journals and hybrid journals (subscription journals in which articles can optionally be published Open Access).
- A "Read and Publish" agreement with AIP Publishing allows publishing an agreed number of articles in the hybrid journals (journal list) at no additional cost to authors.
- The submission process is described here, please use your TU Ilmenau e-mail address. In the section "Publication Charges and Funding" please activate the option "I wish to publish Open Access as part of an institutional agreement".
- If the available quota has already been used up, you will be informed.

- For articles in Gold Open Access journals of the publisher, you can apply for article fees to be covered by the TU Ilmenau publication fund up to a maximum of 1,800 EUR (link to form). An overview of these journals can be found here.
- Contract period: 2021 to 2025
- Corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau can publish Open Access in the proceedings and journals of the ACM Digital Library without additional costs (journal list). The publication fees are included in the total costs of the agreement, which are borne by the University Library.

- Contract period: 30.11.2022-29.11.2023
- A "Read and Publish" agreement with IEEE enables corresponding authors affiliated with TU Ilmenau to publish open access in most of the publisher’s journals at no additional costs (see journal title list: Full Open Access, Hybrid Open Access).
- The number of open access publications at IEEE under this agreement is limited to 15 articles.
- If the agreement has been exhausted during the contract period, you can apply for article fees for articles in the Open Access journals (Full Open Access only, does not apply to hybrid journals) to be covered by the TU Ilmenau publication fund up to a maximum of 1800 EUR (link to form). Then the regular eligibility criteria of the Publication Fund apply.

- Corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau can publish Open Access in hybrid journals (list hybrid) and Gold Open Access journals (list gold) without additional costs. The publication fees are already included in the total costs of the agreement, which are borne by the university library.

- Contract period: 05/2022 to 06/2023
- There is a 10% discount on publication charges (APCs) for articles in the publisher's journals.
- Discounts cannot be combined (e.g., discounts for memberships or "vouchers").
- You can apply for payment of article fees up to a maximum of 1,800 EUR by the Publication Fund of TU Ilmenau (link to form).

- A distinction must be made between Gold Open Access journals and hybrid journals (subscription journals in which articles can optionally be published Open Access).
- In most hybrid journals of the SAGE Premier package, corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau publish without additional costs (option: SAGE Choice). The publication fee is included in the total contract costs, which are borne by the university library. A list of journals with the option SAGE Choice can be found here.
- The publisher grants a 20% discount on the publication charges (APCs) for articles in the Gold Open Access journals. This discount is automatically applied to corresponding authors from eligible institutions. A list of Gold Open Access journals can be found on this page. You can apply for payment of article fees up to a maximum of 1800 EUR by the Publication Fund of the TU Ilmenau (link to form).

- Contract period: 2021 to 2023
- Corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau can publish Open Access in the proceedings and journals of the SPIE Digital Library free of charge (journal list). The publication fees are covered by an overall contract, the costs of which are borne by the university library.
- In order to use the Open Access option, corresponding authors must indicate their affiliation with an authorized institution upon submission. To do this, the option "One or more authors belong to an institution that has an open access publishing agreement with SPIE (select from list below)" must be activated in the "Open Access" section and Ilmenau University of Technology must be selected from the drop-down list.

Under the auspices of the German Rectors' Conference, the DEAL project is pursuing the goal of concluding Germany-wide licensing agreements with major academic publishers that include OA publishing rights in addition to access to the content of academic journals. Ultimately, all publications from these publishers that originate from scientists working at universities in Germany should thus be available in open access.
- Contract period: 2020 to 2023
- Corresponding authors of TU Ilmenau are entitled to publish Open Access in most journals of Springer (see journal list: https://www.springernature.com/gp/open-research/institutional-agreements/oaforgermany#c17399568).
- A distinction must be made between Gold Open Access journals ("Fully Open Access") and hybrid journals (subscription journals in which articles can optionally be published Open Access, "Open Choice").
- The following article types are covered by the DEAL agreement with Springer:
- Hybrid journals: Original Papers, Review Papers, Brief Communications, Editorial Notes, Book Reviews, Letters and Reports.
- Gold Open Access journals: Original Papers, Review Papers, Brief Communications.
- In hybrid journals, there are no additional costs for authors ("Open Choice" option). The publication fees are already included in the costs for the DEAL contract with Springer, which is centrally financed for the TU Ilmenau from funds of the University Library.
- For articles in pure Gold Open Access journals ("Fully Open Access"), publication fees are charged (partly discounted) and invoiced to the TU Ilmenau on a quarterly basis. These invoices are first processed centrally by the University Library, but then (proportionally) transferred to your cost center. When submitting your article, you can submit an application for cost coverage by the Publication Fund of the TU Ilmenau (link to form). The general funding conditions apply, in particular a maximum funding amount. If you do not submit such an application for funding, you will receive an e-mail from us as soon as the publisher notifies us that your article has been accepted. At the latest then, the application form (link to form) must be filled out and a cost center must be indicated.

- Corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau are entitled to publish in Nature and about 30 Nature-branded journals Open Access without additional costs (journal list; Publishing Model = "Transformative"). Publication fees are included in the total contract costs, which are borne by the University Library.

- The agreement for 2023 obliges the institutions to make a pre-payment and a publication-based post-payment. The contract is therefore associated with significantly higher costs for TU this year than before. Nevertheless, the total contract costs will be borne centrally by the University Library in 2023.
- Corresponding authors of the TU Ilmenau are entitled to publish Open Access in most journals of Wiley. The journals covered by this agreement can be found on this page.
- A distinction must be made between Gold Open Access journals ("Fully Open Access") and hybrid journals (subscription journals in which articles can optionally be published Open Access, "Hybrid Open Access").
- The following article types fall under the DEAL agreement with Wiley: Primary Research Article and Review Article.
- In hybrid journals there are no additional costs for authors ("Hybrid Open Access" option). The publication fees are included in the total contract costs (see explanation above), which are fully financed by the university library in 2023.
- For articles in Open Access journals, publication fees discounted by 20% are charged and invoiced to the TU Ilmenau on a quarterly basis. These invoices are initially billed centrally by the library, but are then transferred (proportionally) to the cost center of your department. When submitting your article, you can apply for the costs to be covered by the Publication Fund of the TU Ilmenau (link to form). The general funding conditions apply, in particular a maximum funding amount. If you do not submit such an application for funding, you will receive an e-mail from us as soon as the publisher notifies us that your article has been accepted. At the latest then, the application form (link to form) must be filled out and a cost center must be indicated.
