Open Access Publishing at the Technische Universität Ilmenau

Unlike publishing according to the traditional subscription or licensing model, Open Access publications are available online for free immediately and without financial or any other barriers. Such an open and unlimited access to scientific research results simplifies and accelerates the scientific exchange and meets the information needs of both researchers and students. Therefore, the Technische Universität Ilmenau very much supports the approach of publishing scientific papers using Open Access. The Senate Committee for Research and the Support of Junior Researchers decided on a statement on free access to scientific research results ("Erklärung über den freien Zugang zu wissenschaftlichen Forschungsergebnissen"), which was approved by the Senate. This statement not only refers to publishing in a stricter sense but also to the publication of research information collected in the course of scientific work.

All members of the university can contact the University Library with any questions about the topic Open Access. The library provides advice and assistance in the fields of e. g.:

  • Open Access publication fees for authors
  • Finding and evaluating Open Access journals
  • Legal questions (publishing contracts, copyright)

In order to support members and affiliates of the TU Ilmenau financially in publishing in OA journals, the university maintains a publication fund endowed with DFG funds, its own funds and funding from the Free State of Thuringia.

Please visit the overview page on Open Access Publication Fund of TU Ilmenau for further details on funding and on the application procedure for the assumption of publication fees.

Please also note and use the well-established offer and service of Electronic publishing and the associated service field of the Universitätsverlag Ilmenau (University Press) for your Open Access publications.
