Immediately after the first registration at the TU Ilmenau by enroling in a degree program (degree studies) or by enroling in the Academic Preparation Course (pre-degree studies), the thoska student ID card is produced by the UniRZ.
Students with a postal address in Germany will receive their student ID card by postal mail.

Your university entrance qualification (HZB) acquired in your home country is not sufficient for studying at TU Ilmenau. You have the ability to acquire a HZB recognized in Germany by attending a Studienkolleg in Germany (e.g. Staatliches Studienkolleg Nordhausen) and thus meet the condition of the admission letter.
Every prospective student gets in contact with a public health insurance company immediately before enroling as a student in a degree program (degree studies). This is required even if health insurance already exists with a private provider.
The public health insurance company checks the current insured status of the prospective student on an individual basis and reports the result of the check to the university via the electronic reporting procedure of the public health insurance companies.

Registration at the university takes place
- by enrolment as a student in a degree program (degree studies) or

A change of a program at the same university does not affect the registration at that university. There is only a transfer to the new degree program
- from the pre-degree program into the degree program or
- from the degree program to the degree programm.
Re-registration for the following semester refers to the registration at the University and not to a specific degree program.

The Examination and Study Regulation (ER-STR) forms the legal base of your studies. It regulates the course of study organizational and subject-related.
In addition to the Examination and Study Regulation - General Provisions (GP) for all study programs leading to a Bachelor (B) and Master (M) degree, there exists also an Examination and Study Regulation - Special Provisions (SP) for each study program. It contains the curriculum of the study program with all modules and examinations..
Upon enrolment in a degree program, the student commits to a specific ER-STR-SP for this degree program. The most current ER-STR-SP of the study program is selected. For the study program Research in Computer and Systems Engineering (RCS) with the degree Master (M) this is currently the document M-ER-STR-SP-RCS-2022.
The study at the TU Ilmenau is a presence study. The student's attendance and participation in courses on the campus is required.
For the quick completion of all formalities before the start of studies, enrolment within the enrolment period is also possible without a residential address in Germany.
