Registration at the University by enrolment as a student in a degree program requires valid admission to the program.

Immediately after the first registration at the TU Ilmenau by enroling in a degree program (degree studies) or by enroling in the Academic Preparation Course (pre-degree studies), the thoska student ID card is produced by the UniRZ.

Students with a postal address in Germany will receive their student ID card by postal mail.

Students without a postal address in Germany can pick up their student ID card after arriving in Ilmenau during the office hours of the Students Office at the ASC.

Your language skills are not yet sufficient for participation in the degree program (degree studies).

You have the ability to meet the condition of the admission letter by proving the mentioned language level. For this purpose, please present one of the accepted language certificates when enroling in the degree program (degree studies). The registration takes place as a student at the TU Ilmenau.

You are welcome to attend the language courses at TU Ilmenau Service GmbH German or English to acquire such a certificate. Enrolment in the Academic Preparation Course (pre-degree program) with the aim of linguistic preparation for studies at the TU Ilmenau Service GmbH is already possible one semester before the semester of the admission letter. The enrolment takes place as a collegiate at the TU Ilmenau.

No, that is not yet possible.

Your university entrance qualification (HZB) acquired in your home country is not sufficient for studying at TU Ilmenau. You have the ability to acquire a HZB recognized in Germany by attending a Studienkolleg in Germany (e.g. Staatliches Studienkolleg Nordhausen) and thus meet the condition of the admission letter.

Every prospective student gets in contact with a public health insurance company immediately before enroling as a student in a degree program (degree studies). This is required even if health insurance already exists with a private provider.

The public health insurance company checks the current insured status of the prospective student on an individual basis and reports the result of the check to the university via the electronic reporting procedure of the public health insurance companies.

The health insurance company requires the separate sender number of the university for the transmission of the report. For the TU Ilmenau this is H0001836

Prospective students, interested in the Academic Preparation Course (pre-degree studies), do not need a report of their insured status by a public health insurance company when enroling as a collegiate.

Registration at the University is a prerequisite for participating in studies (degree or pre-degree studies).

Registration at the university takes place

• by enrolment as a student in a degree program (degree studies) or
• by enrolment as a collegiate in the Academic Preparation Course (pre-degree studies).

A change of a program at the same university does not affect the registration at that university. There is only a transfer to the new degree program

• from the pre-degree program into the degree program or
• from the degree program to the degree programm.

Re-registration for the following semester refers to the registration at the University and not to a specific degree program.

An admission letter valid for the desired start semester of studies (e.g. WS 2023) is a prerequisite for enrolment. Furthermore, enrolment is only possible within the following periods for online enrolment.

The Examination and Study Regulation (ER-STR) forms the legal base of your studies. It regulates the course of study  organizational and subject-related.

In addition to the Examination and Study Regulation - General Provisions (GP) for all study programs leading to a Bachelor (B) and Master (M) degree, there exists also an Examination and Study Regulation - Special Provisions (SP) for each study program. It contains the curriculum of the study program with all modules and examinations..

Upon enrolment in a degree program, the student commits to a specific ER-STR-SP for this degree program. The most current ER-STR-SP of the study program is selected. For the study program Research in Computer and Systems Engineering (RCS) with the degree Master (M) this is currently the document M-ER-STR-SP-RCS-2022.

Examination and study regulations of the study programs

The study at the TU Ilmenau is a presence study. The student's attendance and participation in courses on the campus is required.

For the quick completion of all formalities before the start of studies, enrolment within the enrolment period is also possible without a residential address in Germany.

Please inform the Student Office about your residential address immediately after your arrival in Ilmenau.

Presence study

Enrolment as a student in a degree program (degree studies) takes place for

• all degree programs

in principle in the type of study presence and in the study form full-time.

This means that you will be on the university campus in person five days a week and attend activities in university rooms. In the process, individual activities may also be offered online via the Internet by the university's instructors.
