The motor vehicle as a complex technical product requires development skills at a high level and on a university-wide scale. Therefore, development work is only possible on an interdisciplinary basis. The prerequisites for this are very well given by the integration of all faculties of the TU Ilmenau in the course of studies of automotive engineering.
The education in the degree programme in Automotive Engineering is oriented towards the state of the art through intensive research cooperation with the automotive and supplier industry in Germany and abroad, especially in the areas of development, testing, production and quality assurance. The practice-oriented teaching is guaranteed by intensive training in vehicle-related design, measurement and simulation technology, modern practical training in the laboratory and on the vehicle test track, as well as in close cooperation with honorary professors and guest lecturers. Students are involved at an early stage in the research of the specialist areas through student participation in research teams and independent work on project tasks.
A successful course of study leads to the professional qualification "Bachelor of Science". It qualifies for the Master's degree programme.
The basic internship is a course of study with a total duration of eight weeks. If possible, it should be completed before the course of study, but can be completed by the end of the 4th semester. The specialist internship in the 7th semester lasts at least 12 weeks and can be completed in companies in Germany and abroad.
