In addition, as available resources allow, an application can be made for funding for working funds and transportation costs that are necessary for carrying out the doctorate project as special donation. These funds can reach up to 1,000 Euros per year. Persons with disability or severe chronic disease are said to be, taking into account available resources, receive an appropriate grant for aid on request.

Note

In case of a yearly income of the scholarship holders and those of his or her wife / husband or life partners according to the Civil Partnership Act (Lebenspartnerschaftsgesetz) is higher than 75,000 euros, the basic amount is reduced to 800.00 EUR. The annual income is the sum of the positive income according to the Income Tax Act (German: EStG) after deduction of income tax, church tax and social contributions. The year preceding the application is decisive.

If the spouse or the other parent is supported by a scholarship according to the ThürGFVO, the family addendum will only be paid in half the amount. 

The application must include the documents, which are listed at the Application paper.

It is highly recommended to contact the responsible faculty representative of the award committee during the application process.

Please submit the application at the application platform Mobility Online. There is no legal entitlement to the granting of a scholarship.

In accordance with Paragraph 63 (3) ThürHG, funding generally lasts for three years and can be extended for a maximum of one further year. A new application must be submitted for the fourth year of funding. In addition to this extension option, the funding can be extended by up to two years upon application if the scholarship holder

• is actually caring for a child within the meaning of Paragraph 1 (1) sentence 1 no. 2 and (3) of the Bundeselterngeld- und Elternzeitgesetz (BEEG) in the version dated 27 January 2015, as amended, who has not yet reached the age of 14 at the time of the application,
• is caring for a close relative within the meaning of Paragraph 7 (3) of the Pflegezeitgesetz (PflegeZG) of 28 May 2008, as amended, and has proven the need for care within the meaning of Paragraph 3 (2) PflegeZG, or
• has a disability or serious chronic disease.

The scholarship is granted for a period of three years. The application for a fourth year of funding must be submitted until three months before the end of the third year.

A condition for funding for three years is the presentation of the project progress by the scholarship holder to the award committee after 30 months. The scientific progress must be credibly demonstrated by a personal interview and proof from the supervisor (e.g. a supervision agreement). In addition to the presentation of the research results and a detailed progress report, evidence of publications must be submitted.

When submitting an application for extension, please include the following:

• A letter of application indicating the desired extending awarding period (max. one DIN-A4 page);
• Completed form in the applicant portal
• A chronological and topic oriented report on the course of previous research, including details on the research and time schedule needed to finish the project
• A supervisor’s assessment of the PhD candidate’s report (Further approval for the second year of funding)
• A current confirmation of enrolment
• A current declaration of income and bank account information and a current declaration of data privacy protection

It is to be used for upload of documents or applications for suspension, lengthening of the period of Support because of maternity protection or for information about the end of the support before maturity.
