Media content and quality analysis of online contraception information

Social media have become important sources of health information for young people. This includes information about sexual and reproductive health, including contraception. A quantitative media content and quality analysis of the N = 1,000 top contraception posts/videos on YouTube (500), Instagram (250) and TikTok (250) together with the related most liked on-topic user comments per post/video (N = 12,454 comments) was performed.

The study was conducted by the Media Psychology and Media Design Group at Technische Universität Ilmenau and emerged from a research project funded by the German Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA).
